Mining System

Mining System

Trial model for crypto mining, mainly ETH, for a client.

Brief: Development, construction, commissioning, testing and documentation of a functional trial model for use as a mining system.

Work carried out: • Review and correction of the initial rough calculation • Hardware: shopping list for mining-rig components, assembly, documentation • Software: operating system, drivers, security software, stress test, benchmarks, mining software, remote-maintenance software, crypto wallets, documentation • Handover of a functional, ready-to-use mining system including documentation and instructions

Project goal: A fully set up, spontaneously ready-to-use mining system that works or rests depending on factors such as exchange rate, electricity costs or computational effort.

Details: • The system should work independently without user intervention for any length of time and shut down on overheating • No costs or interventions in idle state • Operation without specialist knowledge, with clear instructions

Rough calculations (reference max. 2000 W, 8 × Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti): • Total hashrate: 528 MH/s • Power consumption: approx. 1760 W • Total hardware cost: approx. 7000 EUR • Revenue with solar power: approx. 740 EUR/month → amortization ≈ 10 months • Revenue at 0.32 EUR/kWh: approx. 336 EUR/month → amortization ≈ 20 months

Result: The test system of four laptops ran stably. Scaling up was not worthwhile at the time and would have been too risky without supervision. Delivered ready to use including instructions.

Personal assessment: A mining system should not run unattended in continuous operation. For scaling up or algorithm changes, a profit share would be appropriate.
